17.09. Activations Update

Yesterday I managed to realize a very nice intense day and I visited three peaks valid for the SOTA Award and of course there was an activation from each, so I’m very happy.

First I was on Jagodna Summit SP/SS-002. Comfortable operation. There is a picnic place with tables etc. I made 60 QSOs. Then I came back to my car and after a short rest I started my trekking trip up to Konicek Summit OK/OL-022. I was moving along the SP/OK border most of the time. The activation from Konicek was short. I had only simple antenna. 20 QSOs.

After coming back to the parking lot I made an actication of Gory Zlote Reserve from the car using mobile whip. But the location is locateg high with great view so even with such simple antenna it was successful. 60 QSOs.

Next I had to drive to another parking lot within Gory Zlote. Directly it is close but to get there you must drive a lot up and down on mountain serpentine roads.

From the parking lot I quickly started towards Jawornik Wielki Summit SP/SW-005. About 30 minutes of quick trekking (45 minuets by the tourist signs). After getting there I organized my station on the stairs of the wooden sight-seeing tower. I spent some good time on the radio logging 68 contacts.

Finally I came back down to the parking lot and I decided to try 80 meters as it was time for this band to be already active. But I logged only 7 QSOs.

I was also planning to go to the Mines in Złoty Stok, another reserve. I gave up because I was a little discouraged by the regulations of the Flora Fauna diploma, where there is a need for these two hours of interval between activations. I know that in the international version of this regulation, Worldwide Flora Fauna, this point was cancelled. In the Polish version it is still present. In my opinion, it is harmful for the station activating areas, actually moving in the field, wandering with the radio in the backpack, as I do. It’s a bit depressing.

Finaly I thought that I am not going to take care too much. I am not going to organize my trips observing all SPFF rules. If there is no other way Some of my activations will be valit for POTA only.

To say the truth also the requirement of 100 QSOs to consider you as an activator of a reserve. Sometimes I operate QRP or using simple antennas and 100 QSOs is a big challenge then.

It is all fir fun. If I am OK for the SPFF rules – that’s fine. If I am not – that’s also fine. I am the same happy to operate the radio having contact with nature.
